Let me guide you through an approachable journey into the world of yoga, tailored to fit seamlessly into your everyday life.

Welcome to Yoga Therapy Thrive Express

Yoga Therapy Thrive Express is a three-session 1:1 experience curated to include a personalized set of practices - asana (physical poses), pranayama (breathwork), and meditation.

Using the principles of yoga therapy and meeting you right where you are, we will work together for these three sessions (including a short 1/2 hour intake session) to curate three distinct practices for you to work with according to your current needs.

When our three sessions are complete, you will have these three practices to take and use at home (I will also give you suggestions). These three practices will be available to you for life. I will also provide a video recording of each one.

The Three Sessions:

Session One - Asana: This first session will explore an asana (postures) practice customized to your unique needs and situation. We can factor in any potential pain, previous injuries, and goals.

Session Two - Pranayama: Pranayama is an energetic practice that uses breath, breath control, and expansion. This session will start with a primer on healthy functional breathing (again, customized to your experience and interest). Then, we will practice a technique suited to your needs.

Session Three - Meditation: Finally, we will use a yoga therapy framework to identify a meditation practice for you - again, depending on your needs and goals. We will practice together in session, and then you can explore it independently. Whether you are new to meditation or have some experience, this session will be about you and your unique needs.

After each session, I will provide a video of each practice you can use independently. During the time frame of our three sessions together, I will be available to you between sessions during business hours to answer any questions that you have.

Key Elements About the Program

An essential element to understand about this program is that it is meant to be a starting point. You will receive three customized practices, but they will only be good to you if you commit to practicing them. I will also provide you with some support on how to get into the habit of practice, including a suggested practice plan.

Even with just these three practices, if you commit to them, you will experience improvements in your daily life... less pain, more ease, and contentment.

If you want more in-depth, longer term support to begin and commit to a daily practice and/or if you have a challenging chronic condition and you need more guidance, please check out my signature program, Yoga Therapy for Self-Healing.

What Yoga Therapy is NOT

Talk Therapy

Yoga Therapy does not include cognitive repatterning

based on Western Psychotherapy. It is not a replacement for talk therapy but a beneficial adjunct. It provides what traditional psychotherapy lacks: acknowledgment and use of the body in the healing process.

Performative

It is not focused on the physical practice of yoga, called asana, exclusively- and it is definitely not about doing complicated yoga poses for the sake of making them.

Cookie Cutter

There is no one-size-fits-all approach in yoga therapy. Each program is customized to the individual. This is one of its biggest differentiators between a yoga class, and other healing modalities.

Something Else to Do

We will work together to create a meaningful practice to weave into your life seamlessly and without feeling like another obligation.

Empowerment

My primary focus is empowering my clients to trust themselves and the innate resiliency and healing powers that reside within.

Client-Centered

The opposite of trauma is choice and autonomy. I believe my clients are the experts on themselves, and I am here as a collaborator and supporter of their healing process.

Compassion

Compassion is central to the practice of yoga - to ourselves and others. Ahimsa, a key tenant of yoga practice, means non-harm. I commit to a compassionate and non-harming approach to yoga therapy.

Authenticity

I believe in being honest, transparent, and forthcoming with my clients. I also commit to respecting and protecting my clients' privacy.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know if this program is right for me?

This program is for you if you have tried other treatment modalities for your chronic condition(s) and have yet to make significant or lasting progress. This is also for you if you want a fast-track, no-nonsense, straight-to-the-point approach. :) Yoga therapy is a whole-body, integrated approach to healing, well-being, and resilience building, encompassing all areas of the human experience, making it very efficient. It is not a replacement for other treatments (such as medication or talk therapy) but could be the game-changing difference between just getting by and fully healing in mind, body, and spirit.

Do I need yoga experience?

No previous yoga experience is required; yoga skeptics are welcome!

Are these methods safe?

These methods are safe. My approach is evidence-based and trauma-informed. This process is also client-led, so you will never incorporate practices that do not resonate with you. You know you and your body best, and that knowledge will be our guide.

What sets yoga therapy apart from other healing modalities?

Most other healing protocols are siloed or focused on one particular area. Talk therapy is very cognitive-based, medication generally treats symptoms (both valid and often necessary), and even yoga asana, as it is performed in the West, is usually fitness-oriented and performative. Yoga therapy is unique in that it focuses on rebalancing the entire system...from the body down to the spirit.

What if this price is out of my budget?

Please get in touch with me directly at lalbarella.yt@gmail.com, as scholarship opportunities are available!

Can it be adaptable to my schedule?

Yes, of course. There is a misconception that yoga practices are long and drawn out; "if you don't do it for an hour, it isn't worth doing." Yoga Therapy practices are highly customized to you and can be around 20-30 minutes. They can and often are broken down into even smaller micro-practices that can be done throughout the day, anywhere.

How much time will it take in my day - do I have to practice every day?

This depends on the individual in need and their specific circumstance. Some practices may best be done daily (breath work, meditation), but not necessarily. A few times a week may be sufficient. We'll work together to make sure the practices fit into your schedule.

Where would we meet - does it have to be in person?

Yoga Therapy sessions can be done in person or online. This depends on the situation and your geographic location. I offer both.

How is it different than taking a yoga class?

Yoga therapy sessions are curated by a trained yoga therapist for each client, depending on health challenges and circumstances, and it is typically one-on-one work. This program will incorporate many yogic tools beyond physical postures, such as breathwork, meditation, mindfulness techniques, sound practices, and meditation.

Do I have to be in good shape?

No, not at all. This is relative, but no prior experience or physical requirements are necessary. Many folks who come to a yoga therapist have been very limited in what they can do physically due to their health challenge (i.e., chronic pain). In some cases, physical work may not be necessary right away. It is always, always accessible and safe if used.

Is there a scientific benefit behind any of these practices?

Many scientific studies show the effectiveness of yoga as a healing intervention for many illnesses. Yoga is particularly effective in mitigating the effects of chronic illness and nervous system dysregulation. This includes breathwork techniques, mindfulness, and meditation. If you are curious about scientific literature specific to our practices, I'd be happy to provide them.

How hard is it?

It is not meant to be physically demanding on the body. Practices should be safe, accessible, and completely doable daily. That said, change can be challenging, and building new habits and routines can be tricky. But I will be your guide and support you along the way.

Do I still need traditional therapy?

In many cases, depending on the complexity and severity of the mental health challenges involved, working with a talk therapist will be required as a part of this process. I am not a mental health professional, and this program does NOT involve Western psychotherapy. It is out of my scope of practice. I have an open and honest conversation with my clients before we begin about other interventions they seek and if therapy is appropriate.

Do I need my doctor's permission?

Depending on the physical challenges presented, a doctor's permission may be required to use yoga asana. I cannot diagnose any condition. For example, an MRI may be necessary if chronic low back pain is involved and no diagnosis has been given. I work with all my clients on a case-by-case basis to help determine the correct course of action.
